John received a Master's Degree in Creative Arts in Education from Lesley College. He worked as a special education teacher before joining Macmillan / McGraw-Hill Publishing Company where he became the Executive Producer of "Songs and Stories." This major audiocassette program incorporates music and storytelling into the instructional strategies included in the McGraw-Hill reading series.  John has also had articles published in professional journals in the US and Japan.

John is often joined in concert and on recordings by members of his family. His wife, Ann Marie, is a kindergarten teacher at Wooster School in Danbury, Connecticut. They have five children: Katie, Jack,  Maggie and twins Colleen and Patrick. The Farrells live in Brewster, N.Y. during the school year and spend their summers on Prince Edward Island in Canada.

To support and extend his performances and workshops for students, teachers and families, John has recorded three CD's/cassettes and a music video. He has also written a picture book for children and adults.  John's CD's, How About You?, The Sons and The Daughters, and Touch the Sky are collections of catchy, inspiring and thought-provoking songs and stories.  The tasteful musical arrangements and the messages are for all ages.  Parents and teachers enjoy listening along with children.

His video, The Great Earth Sing-Along, received a PARENTS CHOICE AWARD. John's new picture book, "It's Just A Game," was illustrated by John Emil Cymerman and published by Boyd's Mills Press, a division of Highlights Magazine for Children, Inc.  The book is creating tremendous interest everywhere it's presented.  Written from the children's point of view, the book reminds high-pressure adults that the reasons kids want to play sports are to learn, have fun, make friends and try to do their best. Children's Book Review Service said, "This is a great book with an important message!  It is an excellent read-aloud."
